RL 6.  Reading Literature


Goals


RL1 I can cite text evidence to support my conclusions of what exactly the text says.


RL 1 I can cite the textual evidence that supports my analysis / conclusions  of what the text says based on my inferences made from the text.


RL2 I can find the theme or central idea of a text.


RL2 I can tell how the theme or central idea of a text is shown through its particular details.


RL2 I can provide a summary of the text without personal opinions or judgments. 


RL 3 I can describe how a story's or drama's plot unfolds in a series of events (episodes).


RL 3 I can describe how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution -- a solution to the problem in the story or drama.


RL4 I can determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text.


RL4 I can determine --figure out-- the meaning of words and phrases as used in a text. 


RL4 I can determine --figure out-- figurative meanings.


RL4 I can determine --figure out-- out  "connotative" meanings or tone -- meanings that imply an idea or feeling.


RL I can figure out -- analyze-- the impact of a specific word choice on meaning and tone (feeling).


Standards

1. Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.


2. Determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments.


3. Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution.


4. Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of a specific word choice on meaning and tone.
